A Warren man is facing charges for trying to crash his girlfriend’s car with their three children, all 3 and under, inside.
Robert E. Patterson, 36, of Meadowbrook Avenue S.E., was arrested on suspicion of endangering children and domestic violence about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Reports said Patterson, his 37-year-old girlfriend, a 16-year-old girl and three children— ages 1, 2 and 3— were inside his car when he tried to crash the car on Sussex Street S.E.
Patterson, reports said, threatened to kill her and her 16-year-old son. Officers noted that Patterson was intoxicated. The woman told police she noticed Patterson was drunk while she was driving home.
The two argued and Patterson grabbed the wheel and tried to steer the car off the road. The woman told police she stopped the car before it crashed. Patterson also scratched an expletive insult towards the woman on her car and cut her water bed when they arrived home.
When officers arrived, Patterson threatened the woman again and refused to get into a police cruiser.
Officers reported they used an electroshock weapon on Patterson but he still refused to comply until police threatened to shock him again. Once inside the cruiser, Patterson tried kicking the driver’s side window.
