3 Pa. teens killed when car leaves road, hits tree

TIONESTA, Pa. (AP) — State police have identified three teens killed when a car left a road and smashed into a tree in rural northwestern Pennsylvania.

Troopers from the Tionesta barracks say the victims are 19-year-old Thomas Phelps, of Oil City, who was driving. Phelps’ passengers also died, 17-year-old Cody Mohrey, of Tionesta, and 19-year-old Cody Masters, of Titusville.

Phelps and Mohrey were in the front seat and were pronounced dead at the scene by Forest County Coroner Norman Wimer. Masters died of his injuries after being flown to UPMC Hamot hospital in Erie.

Police say the car crashed Wednesday about 7:30 p.m. after Phelps lost control of the vehicle on German Hill Road in Green Township. That’s about 80 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
