Huntington Bank has donated thousands of dollars to help improve neighborhoods throughout Trumbull County.

On Friday, the bank presented Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership with a $10,000 check for the Side Lot Incentive Program, which allows TNP to offer qualified homeowners a $500 gift card to Lowe’s to do improvements on vacant lots they’ve recently acquired through the Trumbull County Land Bank.

The program started earlier this month.  TNP said many of the homeowners have been maintaining the lots for some time with their own money.

“A lot of residents have been kind of saddled with the burden of vacant lots, so we thought that as these lots became available for purchase, we’d like to offer some kind of incentive for them to improve them,” said Matt Martin, program director for Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership.

Lowe’s also is helping out by giving the homeowners a 10 percent discount, making the card worth $550.
