Ohio St.’s Gee cheered at final tour stop of state

KENT, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State University President Gordon Gee (ghee) has made one last stop on his final summer tour around the state.

He visited northeast Ohio over the last few days, hearing cheers at the final stop in Kent on Friday.

Gee is retiring July 1, announcing that decision just days after the latest in a long line of his verbal gaffes became public. He was roundly criticized for remarks that jabbed Roman Catholics and the academic integrity of Southeastern Conference schools.

Gee has turned the summer tours of Ohio into a tradition since returning as president at Ohio State in 2007.

The Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/19CQ7yu ) reports he hugged well-wishers in Kent where he was greeted warmly.

He said it was time to move on and do something else.
