Pa. volunteer firefighters mourn 1 of their own

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania volunteer fire department is mourning one of its own.

The Cambria County coroner says 32-year-old Gary Gongloff, of Mineral Point, died after he was trapped under a tractor while trying to pull a tree stump from the ground late Saturday morning.

Gongloff was a member of the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Company near Johnstown, some of whose members responded to the call at his home.

The firefighters were able to get Gongloff from beneath the tractor, but he died a short time later at Conemaugh Medical Center from chest trauma.

Gongloff was engaged to be married to a fellow firefighter in September. The local firehouse is decked out in black crepe in his memory. That’s located about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.
