SMARTS program moving to YSU campus

Youngstown State University’s SMARTS program is relocating to the school’s campus this summer.

The Students Motivated by the Arts Program has been at the DeYor Performing Arts Center in downtown Youngstown since the program started 15 years ago. Now, it is moving to Tod Hall.

SMARTS offers free arts programming for students in the tri-county area.

Cary Wecht, assistant dean of the College of Arts and Communication, said moving the program would give faculty the opportunity to get more involved in the program. Financial reasons also played a part in the decision to relocate.

“The DeYor Center was great. We got to be part of downtown and the downtown renaissance but being on campus will just give better access to our faculty and students,” said Wecht.

The SMARTS Program will spend the rest of the summer getting settled in at Tod Hall.  Programming will resume in the fall.
