A passerby alerted a Youngstown resident that his home was on fire on Wednesday, helping the man escape safely.

Officials said a man driving at about 8:30 a.m. on Landsdowne Boulevard saw smoke coming from the roof of a home at 223 Landsdowne Blvd.

The driver alerted the resident, who escaped safely.

Officials are still investigating the fire.

A vacant home on Landsdowne Boulevard was set on fire about six hours earlier.
