The North Jackson branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will close one week earlier than anticipated because of technical difficulties with phone and Internet services.
The branch will close at the end of business on Saturday instead of the previously announced date of June 29.
The North Jackson branch, along with the Lake Milton/Craig Beach branch, are closing and will be replaced by a new Tri-Lakes Library, which is expected to open July 22. The Lake Milton branch will close at the end of business on June 28.
The two branches will combine in a newer, larger facility located at 13820 Mahoning Ave. in North Jackson. The new library for the northwest portion of Mahoning County will be called the Tri-Lakes Branch Library, recognizing that it is located near three bodies of water: Berlin Lake, Meander Reservoir and Lake Milton.
The project is on budget and the cost is approximately $2.04 million for the 6,270 square-foot library.
To accommodate patrons who check out library materials at the current North Jackson or Lake Milton/Craig Beach branches from now until these libraries close, loan periods will be extended. Of course, library materials can be returned at any of the other branches in the PLYMC system or in book drops at PLYMC libraries, including Lake Milton/Craig Beach, as long as a book drop remains at that location, as well as the Austintown branch library.
An official dedication for the new building will take place after the building opens.
