2013 Watch List: The Receivers

The following athletes are players whom you should become aware of entering the 2013 season.

Tom Bailey, SR/Howland
2012: 10 catches, 195 yards
…Bailey was one of Howland’s many offensive weapons one season ago.

Kip DeShields, JR/West Branch
2012: 16 catches, 306 yards, 4 TDs
…As a freshman, DeShields did not snare a single pass on the varsity team. However, he led the Warriors in catches (16), yards (306), touchdowns (4) and was second in yards per catch (19.1).

Thomas Gatewood, SR/Jackson-Milton
2012: 42 catches, 876 yards, 7 TDs
…Gatewood put together a superb 2012 by hauling in 42 passes for an average of 20.9 yards.

Carnell Hawkins, SR/Sharon
2012: 36 catches, 407 yards, 4 TDs
…Carnell added a big play receiver to the Tigers’ offense last fall catching 36 passes for an average of 11.3 stripes per reception.

Marcus Hill, SR/Niles
2012: 34 catches, 478 yards, 3 TDs
…During the regular season, Hill finished tied with Poland’s Anthony Marchionda for most receptions (34) in the American Division. Marcus also returned 13 punts for almost 10 yards a clip (9.8).

Luke Houpt, SR/Greenville
2012: 33 catches, 523 yards, 6 TDs
…In his three seasons on the varsity level, Houpt has caught 73 balls for 1,006 stripes and 10 TDs.

Jake Pishotti, SR/Lakeview (OH)
2012: 23 catches, 532 yards, 5 TDs
…Each of the last two years, Pishotti has caught 47 balls for 1,040 yards which equals an average of 22.1 yards per reception.

Marcell Richardson, SR/LaBrae
2012: 26 catches, 399 yards, 6 TDs
…Richardson led the Vikings in yards per reception (15.3) and touchdown catches (6).

Jared Shilot, SR/Southern
2012: 52 catches, 921 yards, 8 TDs
…Shilot caught 42 passes for a school record 921 yards and a total of 11 TDs. The 6’2 wideout looks to improve on last year’s figures with another monster season.

Darnell Tate, SR/Hubbard
2012: 34 catches, 595 yards, 9 TDs
…Tate has put together solid back-to-back seasons on the outside. In 2011, Darnell caught 18 passes for 409 yards (8 TDS). Last fall, he improved each of those marks by posting a stat line of 34/595/9.
