SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A Cambridge, Mass., couple who ordered a tie and pocket square from Gap Inc. chain Banana Republic say they were astonished at what they got in the mail instead: the confidential files of about 20 former employees, including Social Security numbers and W4 tax forms.
The package arrived at the home of Emily Dreyfuss on Thursday. Her fiance had ordered the tie and pocket square for the couple’s July 5 wedding.
The parcel they got had three folders sealed with tape that said, “HR Administraton.” Inside were handwritten resignation letters, salary information, dates of birth, doctors’ notes and other personal information.
The employees were sales support associates and at least one made $9 an hour.
Dreyfuss, whose father is actor Richard Dreyfuss, said a Banana Republic representative has apologized for the mix-up.
