Two Buhl Park swans killed last Saturday were exhumed from their grave and cremated, park officials said.
The male and female swans, who had been at the park for 14 and four years, respectively, were killed when they were run over by a driver crossing Forker Boulevard in front of Avalon Country Club in Hermitage.
The swans were taken from park property and buried without park officials’ authorization or permission. Officials took them to Hillcrest-Flynn Pet Funeral Home & Crematory for a complimentary cremations.
Their remains will be returned to the park, officials said.
The swans belonged to the park after they were donated in order to keep geese off Lake Julia in the park.
Park officials also said they plan to replace the swans at the park. The swans two cygnets, who survived the incident, are being cared by cygnet experts, officials said.
