Valley charities hit the links

Golf Outing

Golf outings were held across the Valley Friday benefiting several organizations and causes.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene organized a golf outing at Knoll Run Golf Course in Coitsville for Mazzy Marzano, 2, who suffers from spina bifida and a rare brain disorder.

Greene hopes to raise about $3,000 to help defray medical costs for the Marzano family.

At Riverview Golf Course in Newton Falls, supporters of Mobile Meals hit the links to benefit the program that delivers meals to shut-ins and other residents that cannot provide meals for themselves.

Youngstown Country Club was host to the Compass Family and Community Services golf outing. The proceeds will support the Rape Crisis Center and Daybreak Youth Crisis Center.

The Mahoning County Juvenile Court Advisory Board held an outing at Kennsington Golf Club in Canfield to benefit the juvenile courts program.

Avalon Lakes Golf Course in Warren was host to several athletes and celebrities from across the country for the Second Annual Inspiring Minds Celebrity Golf Outing.

Attending the outing were retired Cleveland Indians pitcher Jason Stanford, 2006 Heisman Trophy winner and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Troy Smith, Ohio State University quarterback Justin Zwick, former Youngstown State University kicker and Philadelphia Eagles kicker Paul McFadden and many others.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the local youth of Inspiring Minds, a nonprofit organization located in Warren, Ohio.
