Members of the San Francisco 49ers team and ownership in town for the annual Edward J. DeBartolo, Senior Memorial Scholarship Foundation celebrity dinner and auction.

The event was started by Mr. DeBartolo’s daughter, Denise, as a way to help kids who might not be at the top of their class, or have the financial ability to go to college.

“These are kids who have had a tough life, she seeks those kids out, and makes sure that they have an opportunity, because Mr. Debartolo believed that if you had an opportunity through education, you could do almost anything you wanted in your life,” said Dr. John York, co-chairman of the 49ers.

Dr. York said the 49ers will likely not be making their annual week-long trip to Youngstown during the regular season.
