$131.5M Powerball winner in Philly to be ID’d

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The owner of a south Philadelphia beer distributor is getting a $100,000 bonus after selling a $131.5 million winning Powerball ticket.

Thirty-year-old Gary Patel owns Federal Beer in the city’s Point Breeze section, where his Powerball machine produced the winning ticket.

He says he plans to give each of employees a bonus from his windfall for selling the winning ticket. He says he’ll probably put the rest of the $100,000 into a college fund for his 5-month-old twins, a boy and a girl.

A spokeswoman for the state Revenue Department, Elizabeth Brassell, says the winner could be identified as early as Monday. The person or group with the winning ticket has the option of taking the $131.5 million annuity or $77.4 million cash, minus taxes.
