Liberty announces hiring of Cylar as football coach

During the June 24, 2013 meeting of the Liberty Board of Education, the Search Committee responsible for selecting a new head coach will recommend the hiring of Kevin Cylar. Cylar will replace Brian Jones who resigned after one year at the helm of the Leopards. Coach Jones compiled a 9-3 record in his one season as the Leopards head coach.

Cyler has spent the previous six years as an assistant coach with the Ursuline Irish and has helped guide the Irish to three State Championships during that time. He has coached many former Youngstown standouts such as Jessie Currie, Jamal Turner, Bryant Youngblood and Darell Johnson-Koulianos.

Cyler is a graduate of East High School and Youngstown State University. He has been employed by the Liberty School District for the last two years. Kevin has a son, Kevin Jr., who attends Youngstown State University, a son Zane and a daughter Payten who attend Liberty Local Schools.

Superintendent Stan Watson commented that he is thrilled that Cylar will be assuming this leadership position. He is confident that he will be the type of leader and role model in which the community will take great pride. Cylar brings passion, organization and energy to both his teaching and coaching responsibilities. He will have a significant impact on the football program and Liberty students.
