Outdoor movies return to Covelli Centre

The big screen is back at the Covelli Centre for the return of the city’s outdoor movie series.

Monday night begins the fifth season of the Downtown Youngstown Outdoor Movies with the showing of Dr. Seuss’ “The Lorax.”

The shows are free and take place every Monday throughout the summer.

The event is a collaboration between the City of Youngstown, the Covelli Centre and Golden String, a non-profit organization who raise funds through the concession stand.

Twelve movies will be shown through September 9. Some titles include, “Jack Reacher,” “Men in Black 3,” “The Lion King,” “The Avengers” and “Cinderella.” For a complete list of the movies that will be shown each week, click here.

“We get on average 400 people. The screen is large enough, the sound system is good enough to where it’s not difficult to hear the movie at all,” said Lyndsey Hughes, director of Downtown Youngstown Marketing. “It’s just like going to a drive-in movie.”

Don’t forget to take a lawn chair and a blanket. Movies begin at dusk (9 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.)
