Reports: mother of missing Ohio toddler charged

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — The mother of a 1-year-old Ohio girl missing for three weeks has been charged with obstruction of justice.

Multiple media outlets reported that a grand jury brought the charge against Angela Steinfurth on Monday.

The indictment came as a June 12 child endangering charge against the 25-year-old Steinfurth was dismissed Monday in Toledo Municipal Court.

A dive team last week searched the Maumee River for Steinfurth’s daughter, Elaina Steinfurth, who was last seen June 2.

Investigators say Angela Steinfurth knew her daughter had been seriously injured but the mother didn’t seek medical help. They would not say what type of injuries the baby had or who they believe caused them.

A message was left with the Municipal Court’s public offender office, which previously represented Angela Steinfurth.
