The nation’s weather

Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, June 24, 2013.

Wet weather will continue for the Northwest, while scattered showers pop up across the Midwest again on Monday. A low pressure system over the North-Central U.S. will continue on its northeastward trek into central Canada, but will continue pushing a cold front eastward across the Midwest. This front will extend from the Great Lakes through the Central Plains, moving eastward over the Mid-Mississippi River Valley and into the Ohio River Valley throughout the day. Conditions remain favorable for thunderstorm development and the system has a history of producing strong winds and large hail with heavy rainfall. Thus, the region remains under a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development on Monday.

Meanwhile out West, a Pacific storm off shore of the West Coast continues advancing eastward and pushes another cold front onshore. This front will bring more scattered showers to the West Coast from Washington through central California. The first cold front will make its way over the Intermountain West and into the Northern Rockies, producing scattered showers throughout the day. Expect cooler temperatures and breezy conditions to accompany these frontal boundaries. Between these systems, high pressure over the Desert Southwest will create another warm, dry, and windy day. This will keep fire danger high across the Four Corners from Arizona and Utah, through most of Colorado and New Mexico.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 27 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 102 degrees at Carlsbad, N.M.
