Authorities in Ohio say inmate found dead in cell

MECHANICSBURG, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say an inmate in a western Ohio regional jail has been found dead, hanging in his cell.

A release from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded about 3 p.m. Monday to a call of a reported suicide from hanging at the Tri-County Regional Jail in Mechanicsburg. The release says 28-year-old Loren Standley was in his cell and an EMS crew at the scene informed deputies that the inmate was dead.

The release says Standley was in jail on an alleged parole violation and was in a lock-down area not open to other inmates. No hometown was given for Standley.

The Champaign County and Madison County sheriffs’ offices and the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating.

No other details were immediately released.
