Central Ohio toddler drowns in above-ground pool

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Central Ohio authorities say a 2-year-old boy died after falling into an above-ground pool — despite the best efforts of a passer-by who tried to revive him.

A van carrying three painters pulled over, and one helped perform CPR on Jermon Hines after his body had been carried to the end of a driveway Monday afternoon in Columbus.

Police said the boy was in the care of a baby sitter at the time. He apparently slipped out of the house and fell into the pool while the sitter was tending another child.

The toddler was found face down in water about 3 feet deep. He never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
