Dad charged with driving daughter to fight

A Warren father turned himself in Monday on charges that he drove his teenage daughter to attack a classmate over a Facebook comment.

Jermaine Gary, 39, of 1214 Pearl St. S.W., pleaded not guilty Monday to misdemeanor child endangering charges in Warren Municipal Court. He was released on his own recognizance.

Reports say Gary’s daughter and a 14-year-old classmate at McGuffey K-8 School argued May 16 about a Facebook post the girl made towards Gary’s daughter.

The girl, reports say, refused to fight Gary’s daughter and walked away during school. Gary, reports say, picked up his daughter, who told him about the incident.

Gary then offered to stop the car to allow his daughter to fight the girl if they saw her on the way home. Reports say they saw the girl getting off a bus stop at Riverview Street and Tod Avenue N.W.

Gary let his daughter out of the car and the two fought. Reports say a school bus camera caught Gary’s daughter run up behind the girl and attack her as she stepped off the bus. The two girls wrestled on the ground until they left the camera’s view.

Reports say witnesses told police Gary only stopped the fight when his daughter began to lose the fight.

The girl then walked towards her home, when Gary loaded his daughter back into his SUV and drove to the girl’s home, where his daughter tried to attack the girl again. Witnesses told police Gary only stopped the fight this time because someone told him police were called.

Gary’s daughter, reports say, was suspended from school for the remainder of the year. Her case was sent to the juvenile prosecutor’s to review if charges would be filed against her.
