A former library fiscal officer in Kinsman was sentenced to jail Wednesday for taking more than $14,000 from the Kinsman Free Public Library.

Sharon Vankenegan, 47, was sentenced to 30 days in jail after previously pleading guilty to theft and forgery charges. She is required to report to begin serving her time on Sept. 25.

Library officials said a routine state audit uncovered several financial discrepancies dating back to 2011.

Vankenegan was fired from the library in September after it was discovered that she forged a check.

Trumbull County prosecutors have frozen Vankangegan’s state retirement account to recover the stolen money.
