Bath salts have become popular with teens and young adults, but can be very dangerous because they contain several ingredients that aren’t approved for human consumption.

On Wednesday, Ryan Kralik, 32 and Ruth Eimers, 36, were charged with distribution and possession of bath salts after a search of their Newton Falls home. The two are accused of selling 10 to 15 different types of bath salts over the Internet.

Drug prevention specialist Joseph Glover said some people who have ingested mass quantities of bath salts have hallucinated. He said one report revealed a case where a user stabbed a relative because of effects from the bath salts.

There has been legislation in recent years to keep bath salts off store shelves, but the manufacturers change the formulations to work around the law.

“What happens is the makers of the bath salts go in and change the chemical around just a little bit so that now they have to go back and do new legislation in order to call that specific drug illegal,” said Glover. “With the bath salts, one of things true about it is it is advertised as not for human consumption.”
