Fla. man charged in 135-mph chase in western Pa.

CLAYSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — State police have charged a Florida man with 64 counts of fleeing police and other traffic violations for a chase that reached speeds up to 135 mph before the man was caught in West Virginia.

Troopers from the Washington, Pa. barracks say 27-year-old Theotis Kindell, of Orlando, Fla., was pulled over about 11 miles into Pennsylvania on eastbound Interstate 70 about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say Kindell sped away, then drove into Washington — about 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh — reaching speeds of 120 mph before Kindell drove toward West Virginia on Interstate 79.

Police say they couldn’t stop Kindell with spike strips as he allegedly drove up to 135 mph, using berms to avoid police and other vehicles.

He was finally taken into custody in Monongalia County, W.Va., where he’s awaiting a return to Pennsylvania.
