Money from the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation will be used to help senior citizens pay for their prescriptions.

Money that for years had been donated to the former Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation is once again being used for needed health care in the area.

The foundation presented a ceremonial $35,000 check Thursday to Dr. Farid Naffah and the Avamar Foundation. The funds will be used to help lower-income senior citizens in Trumbull County pay for their prescriptions.

The foundation was originally created to support Trumbull Memorial Hospital prior to its bankruptcy four years ago. Foundation directors said they are now working with the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley to find other health care-related organizations in need of support in Trumbull County.

“This is what we see in our practices every day, elderly people who often cannot afford their medications, and sometimes must make choices between other important things, such as food and so on,” Naffah said.
