Crews from several different Trumbull County departments battled a house fire Saturday evening in Newton Township.

The first alarm went out around 5:30 p.m. for a house on fire in the 3,000 block of West River Road, just south of Newton Falls.

Officials with the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the home belongs to one of its deputies.

The fire was under control shortly after 7 p.m.

Neighbors said the house might have been struck by lightning.

An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
