Festival kicks off holiday events

Fireman's festival

Fourth of July festivities kicked off early in some communities Wednesday night.

In McDonald, hundreds lined the streets for the annual Independence Day Parade. A festival and a pancake breakfast is also part of the celebration.

Residents say it’s also important to remember those in uniform who make it all possible.

“It’s so much pride that we honor them and the soldiers always with our flags out and our hearts open and a lot of prayer for them,” said McDonald resident Kerry Rickard.

The Fireman’s Festival runs 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. through Saturday with a fireworks celebration Saturday night at 11 p.m.

“We live in the greatest country in the world regardless of what anybody said, and we have all that independence everybody wishes they had,” said McDonald resident Katherine Dikun.

Austintown Township also held festivities Wednesday. For a complete list of all the Happenings this Independence
