Cops: Boy, 8, assaults mom

An 8-year-old Boardman boy spent part of the Fourth of July at the Juvenile Justice Center after being apprehended by police for beating his mother.

Police said Joseph Guerrero admitted punching and kicking his mother after she refused to let the boy use her cell phone to play video games.

The mother told police she ran and hid in the bathroom to call 911. The boy is scheduled for a hearing later this month.

Officials with the Juvenile Justice Center refused to confirm if the boy was still in custody.
