Man charged with saying he’s a deputy

A Cortland man is facing charges after he told a woman he was a sheriff’s deputy when the two were arguing about his reckless driving.

Kelly K. Hayes, 36, was charged Friday in Trumbull County Central District Court with impersonating a police officer.

Reports said a woman told police Hayes was driving erratically in Bazetta Township and nearly struck her vehicle twice. While they were stopped at a red light, the woman told the man she was calling police on him.

The woman said Hayes told  her he was Trumbull County Sheriff’s deputy Bob Ross and that no one would do anything about his driving.

Investigators reported Ross knew the woman who owned the car and went to school with her son.

The woman picked Hayes name out of photo lineup.
