A charity walk was held Saturday morning at Mill Creek Park in the name of a local woman who passed away battling Leukemia.
Over 50 walkers took to the trails to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through the Honey-Bunch-a-Thon.
The walk was organized by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in the memory of Barbara J. Reed.
The students hoped to raise $1,500 for leukemia and lymphoma research, as well as build a scholarship fund for Mahoning County students.
“It was a family idea. We wanted to find a way to honor my grandmother and do something special. She was always about the youth and wanted to promote education,” said Khia Chukudebelu, organizer of the event.
Barbara Reed was diagnosed in March of 2011 and passed away in May of that same year.
