Helicopter crashes on Colombia oil flight; 5 die

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Colombian officials say a helicopter has crashed while on a flight to repair an oil pipeline and five people aboard have died.

Emergency agency director Carlos Ivan Marquez says the chopper went down Tuesday morning in the area of Teorama in northeastern Colombia.

Army Gen. Marco Tamayo said three crewmembers and two petroleum technical workers died in the crash. He says soldiers have gone to the scene of the crash, which apparently occurred when the helicopter hit electrical cables. The general discounted any possibility that it might have been downed by rebels.
