Youngstown police are investigating a murder on the city’s South Side.
Police were called to a home in the 300 block of East Florida Avenue around 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Officials confirm the victim is 36-year-old Roosevelt Cooper III.
Detectives said Wednesday they learned Cooper was dead from a man they arrested earlier on an unrelated charge. The man led them to Cooper’s home.
That man isn’t facing charges related to the murder.
According to WKBN archives, Cooper led police on a chase in 2007 that ended with his vehicle crashing into a concrete median near the Route 422 ramp at the Himrod Avenue Expressway. Cooper was hospitalized after that crash.
According to court records, Cooper later appeared in court charged with failure to comply related to the chase. He received probation.
Court records also show in 2011 that Cooper was charged with drug possession and also received probation.
