Local parks looking for support in contest

Park contest

Two parks in the Valley are hoping for some online support in a contest to win money for upgrades and expansion.

Directors with Mill Creek MetroParks and supporters of Thompson Park in East Liverpool are hoping for some on-line support in the Coca-Cola Challenge.

The parks are vying for a top prize of $100,000 from the Coca Cola Corporation in their “America is Your Park”  campaign.  The soft drink giant is awarding funds to local parks and recreational areas to help promote a healthy lifestyle. The online voting challenge will award a grand prize of $100,000  along with $50,000 and $25,000 grants for second and third place.

Directors said if Mill Creek wins, they’ll use the money to complete a children’s playground in the Wick Recreation area.

The deadline for voting is Saturday, July 13.
