Youngstown SCORE receives donation

SCORE Check

A Youngstown community organization is helping small businesses in the Valley.

The Youngstown Foundation donated $5,000 to the city’s SCORE chapter. The organization assists small businesses and helps entrepreneurs start new small businesses in the Valley.

SCORE is made up of 35 professionals including lawyers, manufacturers and accountants who volunteer their time and expertise to mentor the companies. The Youngstown Foundation has been in the area for more than 90 years and awards millions of dollars in grants to organizations each year.

“They got together and said we’ve got to help Youngstown,” said Ed Stahura, chair of Youngstown SCORE. “People who had money contributed to the Youngstown Foundation who then contributed to non-profit organizations to improve businesses in Youngstown. It’s a unique operation.”

The money will be used to advertise SCORE and attract clients in order to build business in Youngstown.
