Slovenefest kicks off in Lawrence County


The largest Slovenian cultural festival in North America takes place this weekend in Lawrence County.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the 32nd Annual Slovenefest held in the borough of SNPJ.

The three-day celebration will include over 20 polka bands, traditional foods and beer along with dozens of vendors and cultural displays. Featured ethnic dishes include klobase, barbecued lamb and pork.

The SNPJ Recreation Center will be open for the event and festival goers will have access to an olympic-sized swimming pool, fishing lake and playground. Train rides and inflatable jumps will be available for children as well as a fireworks display Saturday night. The Slovenian Heritage Center museum will also be open for the event.

The Slovenefest run July 12-14. Admission is $8 on Friday, July 12 and $10 on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14. A $25 pass can be purchased for all three days. Children 16 and under are free.
