A local church honored firefighters throughout the area with a special service on Sunday.

Nevels Temple held a Bless the Firefighters Worship Service for firefighters in Youngstown and surrounding communities.

During the service, each firefighter and their department was honored with an award of recognition.

“Anytime that you’re honored by the public that we serve it’s always a good thing.,” said Terrence Jordon of the Youngstown Fire Department. “We don’t consider ourselves heroes or anything. We are just people who choose to do a job and we do it well.”

Each month, the church recognizes people working in various fields as well as community members throughout the Mahoning Valley.
