Pa. man charged with burning girlfriend’s son, 7

SAXONBURG, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man is facing charges for allegedly dousing a 7-year-old boy with flammable liquid and then doing nothing when his shirt caught on fire.

A preliminary hearing for 35-year-old Edward B. Myers is scheduled for Tuesday. He’s from of Saxonburg, about 30 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Myers allegedly used his cellphone to film the May 25 attack on his girlfriend’s son. Police say the unidentified boy needed hospital treatment for third-degree burns on his face and chest. He also had welts on his forehead from allegedly being shot with pellets from an air gun.

Saxonburg Police Chief Joe Beachem says Myers’ 15-year-old son is also facing juvenile charges.

Myers is being held at the local jail, unable to make $250,000 cash bond. His attorney declined comment.

Myers is due in court for a preliminary hearing July 30.
