2nd arraignment set for Ohio kidnapping suspect

CLEVELAND (AP) — Authorities have pushed by a few hours this morning’s arraignment for Cleveland man Ariel Castro, who’s accused of holding three women captive in his home for close to a decade.

Castro is being arraigned on an expanded indictment charging him with more than 950 kidnapping and rape counts as well as other crimes. Officials did not give a reason for moving back the arraignment to 11 a.m.

Castro has been jailed since his early May arrest, shortly after the women escaped to freedom. He is tentatively scheduled to go to trial August 5, although that date could also be delayed if his defense team requests more time. His attorneys have also hinted that Castro would plead guilty if the death penalty option were taken off the table.
