Car crashes into house in Liberty

Police are investigating a car accident overnight in Liberty Township.

The accident happened about 1 a.m. Wednesday on East Liberty Street and Mosier Avenue.

Police said Layne Shumaker, 35, of  Girard drove his pickup truck off the right side of East Liberty Street striking several mailboxes. He then over-corrected and drove onto Mosier Avenue hitting a fire hydrant and a stop sign before crashing into a house.

The driver sustained extensive injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The house was damaged in the accident.
