A 300-pound potbelly pig that has been abandoned twice in the past month at motels in Liberty is getting help to find a new home.
Penelope the Pig was found last month inside a room with drugs at the Hotel 30. Her owner was arrested on a warrant.
Last week Penelope was found again abandoned at the Super 8 motel without food or water.
Officials with the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County said Penelope had her hooves trimmed and was treated for a skin condition.
A judge ordered the pig into the AWL’s custody due to her being abandoned for the second time.
Penelope’s owner could face animal cruelty charges.
“We placed her with an animal sanctuary that deals with farm animals so they will continue her treatment and rehabilitation and may be eventually if they feel she is fit, they can adopt her out. So we are happy with the successful ending to her story,” said AWL Executive Director Kerry Pettit.
