Car hits utility pole

An intersection in Lawrence County was shut down after an accident early Friday morning.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Washington Street and County Line Street, near the courthouse.

Police say a car hit a utility pole shearing it in half. Crews are working to clear the scene and repair the pole.

The driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Emergency crews said he was unconscious as they prepared him for transport.
