A local gospel singer/songwriter is in the running to win ‘Song of the Year’ in a national contest.

Monica Phillips of Youngstown recently won the grand prize in Session One of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, for “The Love You Song.”

Now she’s up to win again, but is seeking local support. Anyone can send a private message on Facebook the songwriting contest’s page.

“It’s a lot of talent here in Youngstown, a lot of talen and it’s important for us to support each other,” said Phillips.

A winner should be selected by the end of the month.

She said that even if she doesn’t win, she still plans to keep singing around town, and across the country.
