Former school counselor pleads in heroin case

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A former Catholic high school guidance counselor has pleaded guilty to drug and fraud charges.

Under the plea deal reached Monday 36-year-old Kelly M. Scherer will spend two years on probation. She will also repay money she received by billing for tutoring that never happened at the Pittsburgh school.

Scherer had worked at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh for 12 years but was fired after her arrest last year.

Scherer told the judge that she’s sorry and is embarrassed by her actions, and that heroin ruined her life. She had no prior criminal record.
