Newtown kids treated to Big Time Rush concert

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — Big Time Rush is in Connecticut to put on a free concert in the town where 26 people were shot to death at an elementary school in December.

The four-member boy band, which also has a hit show on the children’s network Nickelodeon, will play to a crowd of about 3,500 Newtown residents Monday on the lawn of the former Fairfield Hills psychiatric hospital.

Only town residents are being allowed in, with a limit of five tickets per family.

The band’s appearance is among the last in a string of celebrity visits to support the community in the wake of the Dec. 14 shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Town officials have stopped accepting invitations for similar events, saying they want to begin a period of quiet and healing.
