2nd theater nearly ready for Traverse City fest

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — Efforts to have a second theater ready for Traverse City’s annual film festival are nearly finished.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/15MgZHk ) final inspection is this week for the new theater, dubbed Bijou by the Bay, ahead of a grand opening Monday night. The former Con Foster Museum is scheduled to host Traverse City Film Festival showings next week.

Work is converting the 1934 building into a movie house that will complement the State Theatre, the festival’s primary home.

Foster was a Traverse City mayor whose regular job was managing what’s now the State Theatre.

The Traverse City Film Festival was co-founded by documentary filmmaker and Michigan native Michael Moore. It runs Monday through Aug. 4.
