A Boardman man is facing federal charges for aiming a laser pointer at an emergency helicopter approaching Akron Children’s hospital in Boardman.

Travis D. Krzysztofiak, 32, of Boardman, was indicted on the charge Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Cleveland.

Krystofiak pointed the laser at the helicopter on June 15, charges say.

Krystofiak, according to a court records search, pleaded guilty to cocaine possession in 2005 and was sentenced to 14 months in prison after violating terms of his probation. He was also convicted in 2010 for permitting drug abuse.

He was sentenced to two years probation and a six month driver’s license suspension.
