MVCAP awards scholarships

MVCAP scholarships

The Mahoning Valley College Access Program honored 20 students with its Last Dollar Scholarship.

Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to help pay for college.

“They’ve done a lot of work to get the funding,” said MVCAP Vice President John Taylor. “We’re just trying to help them toward the tail end and clean up some of the expenses.”

Recipients shared with the crowd what they plan on studying and where they are going. Most are staying in Ohio, but one student is moving to Texas for school.

Scholarship recipient Patrick Shannon, a Warren G. Harding graduate, said the money is a big help.

“I’m just very grateful to have been selected for this,” said Shannon. “It’s a great honor that people believe in me in that way. I’m just very grateful.”

This is the 11th year of the scholarship presentation.

Shannon also found out Thursday an additional, unrelated $1,000 scholarship has been sponsored in his name.
