A summer tradition in Youngstown for the past 15 years is under way.

The Mount Carmel Italian Festival near downtown Youngstown opened Thursday with the Little Prince and Princess pageant. Twenty-eight boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 9 were vying for the title.

WYTV Daybreak co-host Jim Loboy served as master of ceremonies while reporters Greta Mittereder and Roxann Sebest were the judges.

The festival, which runs through Sunday, features Italian food, music, an auction and a wine tasting contest.
