Construction begins on Austintown memorial

Ground was broken Friday for a special memorial project in Austintown.

The Fitch class of 1962 is sponsoring the construction of a memorial to honor two fallen classmates. Sergeant James Prommerberger and Second Lietenant James Brown both earned silver stars and died fighting in the Vietnam War.

The memorial will include elements from the old Fitch school and will be located by the football field and track.

Construction of the memorial should be complete in about 30 days.

Committee members said the memorial honors all veterans.
