Hearing set on charges Pa. couple underfed kids

KANE, Pa. (AP) — A judge has set a hearing to determine whether to dismiss charges against a northwestern Pennsylvania pastor and his wife accused of endangering their three children by not feeding them enough.

The Bradford Era reports Senior Common Pleas Judge John Cleland will hold the hearing Aug. 9 in McKean County.

That’s where 43-year-old Mark Hooper and 40-year-old Susan Hooper, of Mount Jewett, have been ordered to stand trial on charges involving their adopted children, who range in age from 9 to 11 years old.

Police say they investigated and filed charges after the youngest child ran away from home earlier this year.

The children have testified they were punished by having meals withheld, but the couple contends there isn’t enough evidence to support prosecutors’ claims that the children’s small stature is caused by underfeeding.
